Hemp and Glaucoma

Glaucoma – Also Known as Green Star – Is the Pressure Inside the Eye That Affects the Optic Nerve.
High intraocular pressure damages the retina and causes vision deterioration. This can be permanent or lead to complete blindness. Can CBD Help with Glaucoma?
What is Glaucoma?
The main cause of glaucoma is increased eye pressure.
Glaucoma = green star is a disease caused by the gradual death of optic nerve fibers. If not treated properly and in time, it can lead to irreversible vision loss. This disease is also hereditary, so you should be cautious if glaucoma runs in your family.
Another type is an acute glaucoma attack. In this case, the disease progresses rapidly, with typical symptoms such as vision impairment, headaches, and nausea.
How does Intraocular Pressure Increase?
Inside the human eye, there is fluid that flows through and maintains the eye's internal pressure. If an excess of this fluid forms or something prevents its drainage, intraocular pressure increases.
Types of Glaucoma
- Open-angle glaucoma accounts for the vast majority of all glaucoma cases. As the name suggests, the chamber angle between the cornea and the iris remains open, allowing fluid to drain. However, the problem lies in the excessive production of intraocular fluid.
- Closed-angle glaucoma occurs when the front part of the iris adheres to the cornea, closing the chamber angle. The fluid cannot drain and accumulates in the eye, causing a sharp increase in intraocular pressure.

What are the symptoms of Glaucoma?
Symptoms vary depending on the type of glaucoma. Closed-angle glaucoma presents more severe symptoms, such as sudden severe pain, redness of the eye, and vision impairment. If it progresses to a glaucoma attack, it is characterized by seeing colored halos around light sources, intense eye and head pain, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting.
Symptoms of open-angle glaucoma are milder, typically including mild headaches and eye pain, sometimes chronic, along with slightly blurred vision.
In general, the symptoms of glaucoma tend to develop very gradually, making them difficult to associate with the disease at first glance. The only way to diagnose glaucoma early is through a medical examination. That is why regular eye check-ups are recommended for people over 40 years of age.
How is Glaucoma treated?
This eye disease cannot be cured, only stabilized and slowed down. The main goal is to reduce intraocular pressure to prevent damage to the optic nerve and ensure proper blood flow to the retina.
Stabilization methods include:
-
Medications
-
Laser therapy
-
Surgery
-
Dietary supplements
How can I help myself with Glaucoma treatment?
Taking suitable dietary supplements can gradually lower intraocular pressure. Try hemp.
Hemp for Glaucoma
Numerous studies have shown that hemp reduces intraocular pressure by an average of 25–30%, sometimes even up to 50%. This is primarily due to the cannabinoids found in the plant.
Smoking marijuana can lower eye pressure for about 3–4 hours. While this has a positive effect, it is not practical for everyday life. To maintain a 24-hour reduction in intraocular pressure, a patient would have to smoke 6–8 cigarettes per day.
This is not entirely practical, as marijuana also has negative effects on mental health, concentration, and the brain. Patients treated this way would not be able to function normally in daily life.
Does CBD work for Glaucoma?
Studies generally indicate that products with a high THC content work best for glaucoma. However, these are illegal in many places and have psychoactive effects, making them unsuitable for daily life.
At Cannadorra, we have long recommended a strong combination of CBD and CBG, which has shown promising effects. One of our customers shared her positive experience with this approach:
Customer Experience with CBD + CBG for Glaucoma Treatment
A woman suffering from glaucoma reached out to our hemp advisory team for help.
Pavel Čermák, responding to her inquiry about hemp use for glaucoma, said:
"Certain studies suggest a significant potential effect of CBG on this type of issue. Therefore, I would recommend applying either a CBD/CBG oil during the day and pure CBG oil in the evening, or applying only CBG even during the day."
"In both cases, apply 3 times a day, starting with 2 drops and applying oil to the eyelids in the evening. After five days, increase the dose to 5 drops if tolerated."
..
Recommended usage options:
1st Option: CBD + CBG Oil and CBG Oil
- Morning and noon: Take CBD/CBG oil – 2 drops (increase to 5 drops after 5 days).
- Evening: Take CBG oil – 2 drops + apply to eyelids (increase to 5 drops after 5 days).
2nd Option: Only CBG Oil (5%)
- Morning, noon, and evening: Take CBG oil – 2 drops (increase to 5 drops after 5 days) + apply to eyelids in the evening.
- "After 14 days at the final dose, please let me know your current condition so we can adjust your regimen accordingly."

Customer follow-up after one month of CBD use for Glaucoma
The customer visited her ophthalmologist, who checked her eye pressure. The results were very positive!
"The eye pressure test confirmed an even lower value than what I had achieved with the chemical eye drops prescribed by my doctor, which I had been using from February to December 2022.
My original pressure readings (without medication) in December 2021 were 20–21 torr.
With chemical medications in December 2022, the readings were 10 and 20 torr.
Now, after one month of using CBD + CBG oil, my readings in March were 16–19 torr, which is amazing! Hemp helped me lower my eye pressure by 20%!"
The normal range of intraocular pressure is 1.3 to 2.9 kPa, which corresponds to 10 to 20 mmHg (millimeters of mercury).
