Dosage of Colostrum for Animals

Dogs & Cats:

Prevention: 1–2 g per 10 kg body weight daily
Treatment: 2–4 g per 10 kg body weight daily

Horses:

Prevention: 20–40 g daily
Treatment: 40–80 g daily

Studies on the use of Colostrum in Animals:

• Giffard et al. (2004): 70 puppies (40–50 days old) were divided into two groups. One group received 0.5 g of bovine colostrum daily for 10 days, the control group received 0.5 g of skim milk powder. Results showed improved stool consistency in the puppies fed colostrum.
• Satyaraj et al. (2013): Studied the effect of colostrum in adult Huskies (2–7 years old). The dogs received 1 g of colostrum daily for 40 weeks. Result: Increased IgA levels in feces and improved immune response after a distemper vaccination.
• Beynen (2020): Some commercial puppy foods contain 0.1–0.5% colostrum to support the immune system and gut health.
• Fenger et al. (2014b): Racehorses received a colostrum supplement, resulting in better performance and faster recovery to competition.
• Fenger et al. (2016): Young thoroughbred horses with respiratory diseases showed a shortened illness duration after colostrum supplementation.
• Holmes & Lunn (1991): Demonstrated that bovine colostrum can be an effective alternative for passive immunity transfer in foals.
• Machado-Neto et al. (2013): Goat kids fed freeze-dried bovine colostrum developed a stronger protective mucosal cell layer in the intestines.
• Afzal et al. (2017): A study with broiler chickens showed that feeding 2–5% colostrum per kg of feed improved feed conversion, increased growth, and reduced mortality.
